Summer 2019 M/F timetable for Kings Cross has been submitted.

This is essentially an amended version of the previous two, the main changes being the addition of a second hourly Cambridge/Brighton Thameslink service, Watton-at-Stone to Stevenage being replaced with a bus, and the 313s being replaced by 717s (on paper at least!). There’s a few other consequential changes as well as the usual tweaks to timings and routings, generally making this timetable run slightly more seamlessly than the previous one.

The following operating restrictions apply:
* Services booked to reverse via Hertford North platform 1 will need to reverse via platform 2 or 3 instead
* Services booked to enter Hornsey Depot via the north end will need to run via Alexandra Palace platform 2
* Nothing is able to leave Hornsey Depot via the north end. They will instead run via the south end and will need to lay over on the reception road until their booked path
* Services reversing at Baldock and Langley Junction will need train descriptions manually interposed

Timetable has been tested so shouldn’t be any major issues, however please feel free to post any issues to this thread.

Agreed.
Also looking forward to a revised version of the sim with the double Canal tunnels and any other track modifications.

Indeed, I’m *really* hoping for this at some point. It’s going to become increasingly difficult to make up-to-date KX timetables going forward, with quite a few changes having taken place and about to take place. It’s only really good fortune that the 2018 and 19 timetables can be run on the outdated layout without any really big issues.

Just a small note: Are there going to be updates to the timetable regarding the introduction of LNER's Azuma train sets? I know one is due in service on 15th May but no service information has been given yet.

Thanks

We do know what route; the LNER web-site (https://www.lner.co.uk/tickets-savings/the-best-way-to-travel/azuma-is-coming/) says, "The first Azuma train will make journeys from London to Leeds from Wednesday 15 May 2019. We'll be announcing dates for further rollouts throughout the year so keep checking back!".

This is confirmed by the Hitachi news room (http://www.mynewsdesk.com/uk/hitachi-rail-global/pressreleases/lner-announces-date-for-new-azuma-trains-entering-service-2851033) which says, "LNER Managing Director David Horne said the first Azuma train will run on the London (King’s Cross)-Leeds route, with further trains being phased into service on the rest of the route over the coming months.

'I am delighted to confirm that LNER will run the first Azuma train on the service between London and Leeds, commencing from 15 May,' Mr Horne said."

Edit and PS. The 125 group note in their 2018/9 LNER HST diagrams (https://www.125group.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/HST-Diags-LNER.pdf):

INTRODUCTION OF NEW HITACHI CLASS 800 SERIES 'AZUMA' / IEP / IET UNITS

New class 800 series 'Azuma' units are intended for introduction by LNER during the period of these diagrams, replacing LNER HST and Class 91/Mk4 set workings. Exact timescales and plans are unknown however diagram NL101 Mondays-Fridays is understood to be an early candidate for Azuma operation.

Diagram NL 101 is shown as:

From memory I think I put the first proposed class 800 diagram in there as it looks likely to be a simple replacement for an HST diagram with no consequential alterations. We’ll have to see how things pan out. It won’t make much if any difference to the handling of the sim, unless someone fancies changing the class 800 to a higher acceleration rate! Same could be done with the 700s and 717s if one prefers.

Or a lower acceleration rate if the 800 is on diesel...

I'm sure it could be done for a payware version of the sim - Think this would easily count as a £30 addition

Don't forget the 'soon to happen' track re-modelling of Kings Cross throat which will require a major update to the sim. You can see all the enabling works happening at the moment to relocate infrastructure and create a contractor's access via the dis-used third (East) tunnel. All track, signalling and overhead lines will be replaced as far out as the Holloway flyover and the layout completely changed to bring the east tunnel back into use again over a 3 to 4 month period starting January 2020. Anybody that travels into KX will see that half the station will be closed at a time to allow the work to happen.

Sneaky preview of the new layout on the attached - you will see that platform 11 also disappears to make give a wider platform between 9 & 10.

Although I've already got Kings Cross, a payware version IF it includes Royston and maybe up to Biggleswade with the various infrastructure changes such as the Canal Tunnels, Hertford Loop works etc would be very much worth paying £30 for...

I'd certainly be willing to pay for it too!

Looking at the re-medelling of the station itself, would losing platform 11 mean a reduction in the number of suburban services, or would they reduce the time each train spent in the platforms?

I should think less services via King's Cross itself and more St Pancras low level (they're next to each other so you aren't exactly put of of your way when you come above the surface) which in a weird way harks back to the days when suburban trains ran to Moorgate via King's Cross.

Given the level of remodelling and resignalling, will they renumber the platforms to eliminate platform 0? (I understood the only reason for not doing so when 0 was added was that platform numbers formed part of the signalling wiring nomenclature, so renumbering existing platforms woudl have required a complete set of new diagrams as near as makes no difference a complete redesign, simply to retain the existing setup. As the proposals look like a complete redesign will be necessary in any case, this would be an ideal opportunity to do away with that anomaly.)

The plan is still to have the remaining 2Yxx Welwyn G C services run through to Sevenoaks during the peak instead of Kings Cross and the same is said for the Cambridge stopper which will run the Maidstone East/Ashford all day from December. Platforms 9/10 will also become '12 car' platforms

I’d be happy for KX to go payware if it meant we get the updates!

Would suggest two additional eras, one for as things are at the now (mainly Hornsey Depot north exit/entry, Hertford North and Canal Tunnels), then another era for KX remodelling as this will represent a very significant change.

Biggleswade and Royston would be good, although would require a fair bit of work modifying every existing timetable. In terms of playability it shouldn’t cause too much trouble as Biggleswade stays in auto nearly all of the time, as does Royston especially since last May.

Also, very sensibly, the displays in King's Cross show the northbound Thameslink services that are going through St.Pancras, so you don't have to guess which station to go to.

My sources say no, platform numbering will remain unchanged (apart from the loss of 11).

On the other hand, the tracks through Gasworks Tunnels will all be renamed (currently A to D, become A to F, east to west).

Thanks Clive. Really is no accounting for the decisions they make, is there?

(Or could they be making passive provision for 9 3/4?)

Are these alterations going straight into three bridges ROC or is KX initially going to control them before transfer.

It is, and the Hertford workstation is already in York ROC

Last I heard TB was taking the southern ECML as part of Thames link. Nonetheless my question still stands.
