Is it possible to use the short neck to do a 'shunt' from the loco sdg back into the loco sdgs?

I would say not, as there's no signal to get the engine out again.

The timetable validator suggests there’s no useful TIPLOC for the neck either.

In this case its there to allow an internal shunt to draw past the exit signal partially. You could make a move back into the yard on PIC authority only.

This is a signalled move but controlled by Wembley Yard. 0S00 would appear in the signal berth, the Wembley Mainline Panel C signaller would set the route into the neck. There is a Wembley Yard signal that Wembley Yard would use to take the loco back in. It’s only 20-30m long, one engine length only.
TBF this should have been included as Wembley Yard often requests shunts into the loco headshunt and back into the Yard. This is an omission from me when asked questions by the designer, I believe. I’ll have to check my past messages.

That's incorrect.

EDIT: Apology letter in the post. There is a GPS. As the current layout stands within the sim, it would be on the hollow track area on the other side of 788 signal.

My apologies also. I should have noticed this from a while ago.

I also take responsibility for this omission.

The loco would stand over the track circuit of the points and headshunt and would show occupied till the loco moved back into the loco sidings or into the yard.
