I note that the scratchpad for the Down Decoy Yard has only has one train ID slot.
I assume that's because only one train can occupy the yard at any one time.
For some reason I thought that more than one train could be at that location.

Do you mean a four-digit 'train describer berth'? The train describer doesn't have any bearing on how many trains you can put onto a piece of track.

As you said, it's just a scratchpad: the berth is not connected to anything.

The yard has a lot of capacity and is an entry/exit-point from the simulation point of view. Trains you send there exit the simulation, and new trains can enter there. I don't think SimSig is simulating any kind of limit on how many trains can be in there at any one time.

Actually, it does. Based on train length, nothing more detailed than that.

Thanks for the replies which clarify things for me.

I did wonder about the one scratchpad berth but I didn't think that there could be only one train in there.
Plenty go in and plenty come out.

The 1988 Eastern Region Quail shows 11 dead Sdgs & a cripple Sdg in Down Decoy Yard. At that time was usually filled with MGR sets.

I normally use that scratchpad berth to either permanently put the pilots headcode in for reference, or if a train enters from the yard and I need to detain it, but make a note of whats waiting.
