I've come up in this situation 1V52 is delayed on P2 until 1440, and 6C73 is coming right behind. It is 11 minutes late, but would still be blocking the line if plaftormed on P2. Trouble is, I'm not sure if I can re-platform on P3 and still manage to get the train to Fairwater Yard. Is it possible to come off the main lack and back into the relief? From reading the diagram and some try, I don't think so. The Norton Fitzwarren shunt does not seem to allow swapping from down to up (which probably make sense since it's a high speed track here). I guess it would be possible to keep down until Tiverton Junction, and then reverse through E637. But I don't think I want a 6 train reversing for that long, given than even at front speed, this would probably not be beneficial anyway. Have I got not choice but to leave 6C73 a E118 blocking the down main into Taunton, and hope it does not put other train late? Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Log in to reply |

At Norton Fitzwarren trains to access the WSR had to come from the relief line, not down main, and the up line LOS is the same. There is no PL aspect on E22. Not sure if the local rules would allow it, but you could let 6C73 in behind 1V52 as the platform is permissive, then any further trains have the DM & P3 to keep going. Else just sit it out. Can I bring another train in behind without it being a call-on route? Edit: oh are call-on route actually not necessary resulting in a join? Last edited: Today at 19:41 by M'vy Reason: None given Log in to reply |

Call-on admits a second train to an already occupied section of track. By itself the call-on does not cause trains to attach to one another. A join is only carried out if the timetable specifically says that both trains are to join at this location - marked in the timetable by an activity "J:(train number)".

Should be noted that mixing freight and passenger in a section is somewhat frowned upon; I very much doubt this would be permitted in reality. Sometimes you just have to suck up a bit of delay. Doesn't seem to be that big a problem in the scheme of things? "Don't stress/ relax/ let life roll off your backs./ Except for death and paying taxes/ everything in life.../ is only for now."
