Crossing Failure at Thorne lasting in excess of 5 hours!! 14/11/2023 at 21:03 #154079

I've been playing Doncaster PSB (North revised times) 2019-01-09 SX.WTT and have encountered a slight problem.

Shortly after 5 pm today, I had to leave my computer to help with the preparation of dinner.
The sim time was 15:09 and both crossings at Thorne had failed, the first (THorne No.1) at 15.09 sim time and Thorne No. 2 at 15.21 sim time.

Unusually for me, I forgot to pause the game and when I returned to resume play at about 8.15 pm I could hear the sim telephone ringing.
The screen was absolutely full of trains, one behind the other as you can see from a small snippet in the screenshot.

I was under the illusion that crossing failures would be rectified at some point, but not more than 5 hours later. Note that I have activated the Emergency Replacement at the signals either side of the crossings. Was this a mistake?
Does this type of failure mean that I can't allow trains to cross, or after a certain length of time could I deactivate the ER and talk the trains across the crossings?

I have saved games every 10 minutes, so if any other saves are required. please let me know and I'll post a saved game for you to play with.

This all reminds me of maxand and his Derby sim.

Thanks

Edit: if there are any masochists out there who would like to sort out the chaos, let me know and I'll post a saved game for you to lay with

The save you have attached doesn't have either crossing in the failed state. I'm relatively sure though if you let a train over the crossing on each line at caution it will reset itself.

Shades of Maxand.

I'll get my coat on the way out...

Edit: Oh dear, I should've read Bugsy's last paragraph more fully. But a good time to remember Max, as we're close to his anniversary.

I suspect both the up and down train tripped the strike in for the AHB's which are located close to the protecting signals, forcing the barriers down, however as the signals are held at danger, the train is unable to cross so the barriers are remaining down indefinitely.

The failure indication (in Simsig at least) means the barriers have been down longer than the normal period allowed, rather than that the crossing has failed in the more traditional sense. as headshot says, once everything has cleared the strike ins, it will return to normal.

The first thing I thought when I saw this was Max :-)

That's at least one meaning of "failure"; I forget what the others are.

The logic for AHBs is taken directly from the example circuit diagrams in the Red Book. So it should be prototypical.

Oh dear. A self-inflicted situation.
I'll run the sim again from an earlier save and do what you have suggested.

Thanks
