Just a thought. Has anyone hosted sessions where the server is in a public cloud yet ? If not I might put together a tutorial as for those who can't host at home due to bandwidth or other issues it might be a useful resource.

Do you mean hosting via the cloud WiFi network? Its possible but it may be temperamental. Could be possible but I've never tried it.

I think he generally means hosting it from a remote location that isn't your own PC so that people aren't connecting to your IP and PC, they're connecting to whereever your server is in "the cloud"

Correct, I mean hosting a Windows instance in something like Amazon Web services. Easier to show it off. I'll see if I can do something up tonight, with something everyone knows, like Kings Cross or something.

OK beta'd with Carlisle and it works with on the !free ! amazon tier. Can connect and run a Simsig server in the cloud, connect from Laptop no problems so equal bandwidth for all.

Have written a OneNote set of screenshots detailing it, need one or two people to test it through, ( setting up the server , the client is completely standard )

prereqs :

1) must be prepare to sign up with AWS ( Amazon ) with a credit card. Most people already would have this if you've bought stuff.

2) if you leave stuff running in AWS it costs money - it is easy to exceed the free tier http://aws.amazon.com/free/ so anything you crank up is your own responsibility to pay. This is the nature of the public cloud.

Regards.

Chris.
