Hi all,

I am working on a TT for Kings Cross for 07th June 2014 and I am noticing that at least some of the trains, for whatever reason, on the way out of KX have a 5-minute wait at Belle Isle with - at least in one case - a 4 minute engineering allowance for good measure.

Although the slow lines are - from what I can tell - closed on this day in both directions I can see no reason for the wait at Belle Isle as no other trains, from what I can tell, are due in or out during the waiting time. Is it wise to bet that the timings for these will be revised to remove the wait at Belle Isle?

Or should I just take out the 5-minute wait at belle Isle and revise the remaining times thereafter by 5 minutes? Thoughts welcome.

Dave

Also many of the Up services stop for 5 minutes at Finsbury Park K392. No idea why.

Hi Dave,

My suggestion is, if it's a real TT, you need to stick to the reality, and not modify the allowances, but you may use the "d" set down only tick box, for trains to move early if required by the signaller. I'll look forward to this TT, cheers, and good luck!

Thiago.

Is this a weekend TT? Single Line Working is in operation many weekends throughout the summer due to the installation of the new junction at Belle Isle to take future thameslink services to the south. The timings are for the pilotman to do his stuff.

The single line section is from K303 (north end of Gasworks Tunnel - 'A' route) to Finsbury Park plarform 4. Lines B,C and D are closed to traffic,as are platforms 6-11 at Kings Cross.

Hope of help

Thank you Mr. Welham for the gen. That is extremely interesting. Oddly, however, the RTT info shows trains from KX as using Platform 5 at Finsbury Park while trains to KX are using P4. Also I can't individually time for signal KX303 as the list of timing points on the KX sim is not there on SimSig.

Hmmm......

Since the V4 release isn't there now a 'Belle Isle' timing point available? I can't remember off the top of my head but that would be ideal.

I'm not sure about the platforms at Finsbury Park - I imagine they will be amended nearer the time - if the SLW arrangements are the same there is no access at all to platform 5.

Looking forward to the TT though!

Yes there is a Belle Isle timing point but the fun would start with the pilotman working. Another thought though: how would you detach the pilot engine? The timing point for Finsbury park at present shows, for at least one train, that there is no call booked for Finsbury Park.

Surely you don't need a pilot engine when the operational requirement is a pilotman (in lieu of staff/token) while the SLW is in operation.

I queried the RTT platform reporting at FP a while ago and was told it was related to the new platform numbering and an update/fix that was required. I can't recall the full details of what exactly the problem was, though it was explained at the time. My morning train is consistently misreported as using Plat 1.

Thanks all for your help on my queries with this TT to date.

Routing is impossible from KX303 at Belle Isle to FP, P4. If a train rings in due to being stuck at a red then I guess you can only give authorisation to PSAD. Would that train then work through to P4 without stopping? If the answer to that is no then I can see two solutions. Either:

1. Abandon the creation of this TT and look for another project. This would be a pity as this TT would be a great challenge if it came to fruition.

or

2. Make this TT semi-fictional. Those which terminate at KX and reverse there will work to the booked TTs for 07-Jun-2014 but those from KX would run to the same times as on an average Saturday.

or

3. Pass over what I have done to date and let someone else finish it.

I guess PSAD is the only solution but I have no knowledge of pilotman working other than that I think it involves having 2 people in the train cab: PM gets dropped at FP then goes back on the next train. I note that quite a few trains have 2-minute calls at FP P4 as well when heading from KX.

Also another query. Does the T3 for the works cover the junction witht he line from Camden Road? I only ask as I note from RTT that there are freights booked. If the Camden Road spur is not blocked by the T3 then what are the limits for the engineering possession and making the track blue to close it? I shouldn't have thought the lines would be closed all the way from KX to FP but I am happy to be corrected.

Thoughts / corrections welcome but if 2 or 3 are correct then I will try and get this TT finished.

Dave

The possession limits definately block the Camden Incline. I guess the timings on RTT haven't been amended yet and that STP paths will appear in due course routing any affected trains via the Harringey curve.

Have you tried a test run from K303 to finsbury park to see if the driver accepts the route? There may be some issues with the facing points at Holloway. I'm sure you could route affected trains the normal way into finsbury park platform 5 for the sake of making the TT work. It'd be a shame to waste all your hard work!

I haven't done a test. I think that, although routing normal way into P5 to make the TT work is an obvious way of doing things it would mean I would have to lift the T3 through Belle Isle on Line B / FL1. Too tired to run a test tonight: will do one tomorrow and report back.

Thanks also for your point about use of the Harringay Curve but unless freight could be reversed then only freight in one direction could use that curve unless Ferme Park CS were used as a reversal point?

That is a good point about southbound freight. I can't remember what happened last weekend with them but ferme park wasn't used. Perhaps diverted via the MML or the West Anglia? Very few southbound freights on a weekend though - Dollands Moor steel but not much else. Many of the paths shown on RTT never run.

Ran the test train this evening and he took the route all the way to FP where I switched him at P4 onto FL. Good. Next trick is this: is there any way to get him to ring in without waiting until 2 minutes after he should have departed? Would rather the train left on time and rang in, say, about 30 seconds before. Then he can be told to PSAD and still keep to time.

Any ideas as to how this can be achieved? Pity there isn't some option to include pilotman working when building TTs.

There's no way to do it without resorting to F2, as far as I know. There's been about 3 requests for something like this in the last couple of weeks.
