Hey, I've noticed on the manual that there is a 4.2.2 available for download but this isn't reflected in the repository. Apparently the last download submitted was on 8th November which is still classed as 4.1. Will this be made available soon? Thanks, Joe Log in to reply |

It's already released, download it then press the check for updates button in the loader.

Be that as it may, I've already installed VLUL v4.1. When I clicked Check for updates I was told SimSig is already up to date. When I checked, it was still v4.1. As some of you know from my previous post here, I prefer a bespoke folder location. In fact, the last time I used this feature to update the Loader, everything went smoothly once I made sure Folder Options were in order. Now it seems I can't rely on automatic update to inform me whether a sim is up to date or not, and even then I can't do it manually as the latest version isn't available in the Depository/Remository. So, catch-22 yet again. I don't know what you other guys think about this state of affairs but I can't see why, having gone to the trouble of releasing an updated sim, the developers can't go the extra yard and add it to the Downloads straight away. I have not encountered this anywhere else and IMO it really sucks. Why antagonize us in this way? It appears to me that the Update module is failing to look in the folders nominated in Folder Options. Last edited: 08/05/2014 at 10:47 by maxand Log in to reply |

" said:headshot119 wrote:It is a bit of a conundrum, but from a developers' standpoint I prefer the new (current) method. Why? Because uploading just the simulation to the updates server is much easier and quicker than gathering sim/timetables/splash screens/etc, sending those to Geoff, waiting for him to build the installer, distribuing the installer to testers to check it installs properly and so on. Granted, there have been teething problems, but I'd say the lions share of them are from people not installing to custom directories correctly. I have three SimSig directories on my desktop PC - 1 for released versions of sims/loader, one for all my testing and development work, and one on a seperate harddisk for installer/updates testing. Never had any issues with the updater finding any of the directories, or updating the directory I want it to and leaving the others alone. There are two things I can think of that could cause the symptoms you describe Max: 1) The directory you want to update is not selected in folder options 2) The sim you want to update is found in multiple directories, and as a result updater is updating neither of them I'm not privvy to the internals of how updater works, so the above are deduced purely from logic and 2 minutes and experimenting, Geoff will be around a bit later I'm sure and can offer more insight. That said there are things we developers need to do to ensure it works properly. I annoyed my testers recently by sending them build 67 2 days after sending them build 72... That doesn't appear to be the case with Vic LUL (I've just sucessfully updated my copy from 4.1 to 4.2.2) EDIT: Karl posted while I was typing, apologies for any duplicated points Last edited: 08/05/2014 at 11:17 by JamesN Log in to reply The following user said thank you: maxand |

There is only one installed version of VLUL v4.1, in C:\Program Files (x86)\SimSigLdr\Simulations\Victoria.sim. Last edited: 08/05/2014 at 13:06 by maxand Log in to reply |

Does the user running the updater have write permission to "Program Files (x86)\SimSigLdr"?

Program Files (x86) is protected folder, therefore SimSigRefresher.exe (updater) must be run as adminstrator. This is the reason why simulations and timetables are not recommended to be installed there. Log in to reply |
