This suggests that the SIMSIG font is missing. The fonts are installed by the system files (I believe!)

Not having used crossover I am not sure what to suggest to correct this issue. Other than install the system files again!

which software conversion do you recommend for SimSig to work correctly?

As Andy has said it sounds as if you do not have the fonts, so you should try to install the system files again.

I run SimSig on my iMac (10.6) under Parallels 5 very successfully. However, that's a paid-for full virtualisation way of doing it. I haven't tried yet but I'd be surprised if the free Sun Virtualbox and the paid-for WMware Fusion didn't work just as well. Others find that Wine works, too. It's free but requires a small amount of tinkering to make it work, but it gives very good performance once all set up.

The "linuxstarter" file that can be found in the Downloads section in User-contributed/Other may also help if you're using wine.

When using SimSig with a MAC or Linux, some sims install a registry setting that means the sims work correctly while others do not. It's not a question of the system files not being installed, a registry entry relating the the SimSig font is missing. As Zuane suggested, using the linuxstarter file installs the missing registry entries and you should be good to go.

The font that is missing can be found on the original Swindon Simsig (not SwinDid!) If you install that Simsig should work fine, but be warned that 4 way scrolling isn't implemented.

WelshDragon... the linuxstarter file contains the registry entries that the original Swindon install had. I had my IT guy at the office who's got more Linux experience then me, look into it and he came up with the same result completely independantly just after someone posted the linuxstaterfile. So using it should mean any sim works even on a MAC which uses a Unix based OS

Get parallels. It works perfectly and even works for multiplayer sessions. I've not yet tried hosting but I'm sure that will also work.
