At the last London meet a plan materialised out of the air to have a March meet at The Tap on Sheffield Station. Karl Latham (headshot119) has spent a lot of time dealing with The Tap only to find within the last few days that would be unwilling to let us use their facilities for a Saturday afternoon meet. Various other options then fell through but Karl and John Mills (Meld) have been doing some leg-work and we have managed to find another venue in Sheffield. A meet will be held on Saturday 18th. March at The Bankers Draft, 1–3 Market Place, Sheffield, S1 2GH. There is a Wiki page giving details of the meet and a link to a sign-up form. Apologies that the notification is later than we usually manage due to the difficulty in getting a decision from The Tap. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Last edited: 04/01/2017 at 19:29 by postal Reason: edit Log in to reply |

Look forward to it. Banker draft is a brave choice of venue on a saturday though. Will get it booked off work. Food wise Id recommend cosmos (all you can eat curry, chinese and oriental) or buffet U (all you can eat cantonese. I cant actually think of a curry house in sheffield centre. All the good ones are out of the way "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Last edited: 04/01/2017 at 20:55 by jc92 Reason: Additional info Log in to reply |

Just to add that rail travellers heading to the event can sample the Sheffield Supertram between the station and the venue, just head over the footbridge to the Station stop, board any tram bound for Middlewood, Malin Bridge or the Cathedral and alight at Castle Square (2nd stop), as the stop is directly outside the Bankers Draft. Look forward to seeing everyone old faces & new. Passed the age to be doing 'Spoon Feeding' !!! Having visited the venue myself this lunchtime and the space reserved will accommodate plenty of members, lets make this a SIMSIG record for attendance ;) (BTW the Coffee Porter was delicious ) Passed the age to be doing 'Spoon Feeding' !!! Does anyone know of any unusual routeings in the vague general area on the day? E.g. East Midlands via Corby, or use of the Hambleton curves. There's a scheduled York to Sheffield via Pontefract Baghill on Saturday, so if I don't find anything better I may take that and arrive around 13:00.

You could head out to Barnetby and come back on the 11:41 to Sheffield via Brigg, gets you into Sheffield at 13:14.

If you really want to see the scenery you could continue on to Cleethorpes on the train from Retford (arr 10:08), returning at 10:26 (arr. Sheffield 12:09). I have had a rather disappointing conversation with the General Manager of the Bankers Draft today. He told me that the Duty Manager had exceeded his authority in offering us the area at the back of the Mezzanine bar on a Saturday afternoon as this is one of the busiest times in the week. The General Manager was therefore unable to let us use that area of the bar for our meet. However, the venue has a meeting room on the floor above the Mezzanine bar which we can use. Food is not served in the meeting room but he will reserve a table for us in the Mezzanine bar where people can eat or socialise. I felt rather let down that it taken 10 days from my visit to the venue for this to come to light. However, as people may have already booked travel or accommodation I felt that we had little choice but to accept the change. I did manage to get him to agree that all attending should receive a free pint or equivalent in light of the amended arrangements.. Apologies for this alteration which I hope you will see is beyond our control. If anyone wishes to take their name from the list of those wishing to attend, please PM me so that I can edit the list. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply |

Much as I would love to be able to come and have a play with the new sim I will be on the north Devon coast on the weekend of the meet. Even if I wasn't going to be in Devon the train fare (£95.50 day return, which is nearly 1/10 of my monthly wages) is too high. I wish you all a good time and look forward to seeing any screenshots that subsequently emerge. Dave Last edited: 02/03/2017 at 23:25 by DaveHarries Reason: Editing Log in to reply |

A fortnight today at this time we will just be settling down to an afternoon of socialising and SimSigging in Sheffield. To assist with the socialising and in view of the way they mucked us about with the booking, the management at the Banker's Draft have agreed to give everyone attending a free drink (chosen from the following range of drinks: Any hot drink, any medium draught soft drink (pepsi, diet pepsi, lemonade, pepsi max), medium glass of OJ, Apple juice, cranberry juice, Pint of House lager (Carlsberg), Pint of house cider (draught Magners), Pint of John Smiths or any traditional ale, medium glass draught wine). They have asked for a list of names so that they are only giving free drinks to bona fide members of the group. I will therefore be passing on the list of names for those who have signed up to attend by the close of play on Wednesday 15th. March. To avoid mix-ups, you'll be handed a drink voucher when you collect your name badge on arrival. To sign up, please use the form on-line here. The rule will be "no sign-up, no free drink". “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply The following users said thank you: trolleybus, headshot119, JamesN |
