Noted at 1326 today was an EMT liveried HST type express heading at speed down the ECML through Tallington. Does anyone know what it was doing? We only normally have EMT push-pull 2 coach units on this line... Ken Log in to reply |

Heard about this late last week from a contact. From what I understand, at-least one Class 225 (electric set formed of a Class 91 Locomotive, 9 x Mk4 carriages and a Class 82 DVT) is at Doncaster to be repainted into the East Coast Livery and so EC have hired in this HST Set from East Midlands Train to cover it's normal workings. I'm due to receive some further information on this soon which should include the full workings so I'll post this information up if I am allowed to (which will be up to my contact). Watch this space

What you're referring to is an Intercity 225 Set, with a DVT which happens to be numbered 82xxx (although this does mean that no loco can have those numbers, since TOPS would throw a fit) - the only "Class" in there is the 91 :) Much like HSTs, only the locos are "Class"ed (43s in their case), meaning they're technically loco hauled - although HSTs were formerly counted as fixed units, and had classes 253 and 254 (similar to a Voyager set). If a 91+Set were ever counted as a single unit, it would be a Class 3xx anyway - such as the Eurostar sets (Class 373, right?) Log in to reply |
