4. Which branch line had separate train staffs for passenger and goods trains that could be issued simultaneously?

" said:
Question 4

Is this the Looe Branch... one staff for the passenger train and one for the goods train for the Cement Works?
Good thinking Rik, but the train staffs I'm thinking of were labelled "Passenger Train Staff" and "Freight (or Goods?) Train Staff"

The freight one was out of use when I became aquainted with the line.

Q5 North Woolwich (old), when it became a museum?
Sorry Signalhunter. North Woolwich still had some tack in the platforms and I don't think they put the turntable back in.

On a quick scan through I couldn't see many guesses for Q2, so I'll throw in
Hoveton and Wroxham change for Bure Valley Railway.
I reckon there must be some a fair bit longer, but 43 is a starting point.

I'm wondering what Birmingham International's full sign says - presumably with reference to the airport and NEC it must beat Wroxham.
Good try GoochyB, 43 is good, but I'd found one with 52 letters, but I've just found another in the 60's. I think Birmingham International is just "... for the Airport and NEC", but all google found was plant "Birmingham International".

11: Southend (Ealing Broadway - Southend service once operated by the District Railway jointly with the London, Tilbury & Southend Railway, changing from electric to steam traction at Barking).

22: Was this the reversal in/out of Limerick station?
7d. Correct, Fives station is in Lille.

11. Sorry but Rio de Janeiro is further than Southend.

22. Correct, Tipparary trains had to reverse around the back of Limerick Junction station to get to the Tipperary on the Waterford line.

6: I'm going to claim a bonus point: there used to be a YORK road on the Underground.

8: Madrid line R (Principe Pio to Opera). Taipei has two: Beihou to Xinbeitou and Qizhang to Xiaobitan. Hong Kong has Sunny Bay to Disneyland. I'll also point out that both Paris and Barcelona have point-to-point funiculars that are included on the metro map as metro lines.

11: The furthest out termini of the Underground were Brill and Verney Junction. The Southend service that Kbarber mentions went to Shoeburyness. The District also once ran to Windsor. But I've also been on LU trains to Rugby (via Aylesbury and Bletchley), Portsmouth Harbour, and Dungeness via Fokestone.

13: Acton Main LINE.

21: is it Wick?

22: Limerick Junction was laid out so that a through train couldn't use any of the platforms without reversing.
Hi Clive,

6. Bonus point for York Road

8. Madrid line R was the one I had in mind. More bonus points for Hong Kong and Taipei.

11. Nice journeys, but not as good a Rio de Janeiro (the designation was only signed, not served!)

13. Lines form shapes, but are are not a shape in themselves.

21. Its not Wick.

22. Correct on Limerick Junction, its not the same since the trains started going forwards.

How are these......?

Quote:
2. What is the longest station name displayed on a national rail station in England (including the for …)
Liverpool South Parkway for John Lennon Airport

Quote:
4. Which branch line had separate train staffs for passenger and goods trains that could be issued simultaneously?
Heysham branch from Morecambe.

Quote:
13. Which geometrical shapes appears in a national rail UK station name other than square?
New CROSS
New CROSS Gate
CROSS Gates (Leeds)
Officer Dibble,

2. 41 letters for Liverpool South Parkway is good, but I'm looking for something in the 60's

4. Sorry, Bare lane to Morcombe was two parallel single lines, one with a connection to Heysham. The Heysham branch was used by freight and the Isle of Man boat trains.

13. Correct

Thanks for having a go.

Oh! How has it taken me so long to realise:
13: Salford CRESCENT. (I used to live practically next door to it!)

For 11 are we talking about the London Underground network or a London Underground train? If the latter, Shanklin's got my guess - but I suspect I'm dodging the question slightly.
Josie,

13. Salford Crescent is correct,

11. Sorry but Rio de Janeiro is further than Shanklin.

Peter.
