Hi all,

I have a TCF that is tying up Barking Station Junction and is affecting the Tilbury Loop particularly badly in as much as trains cannot pass between Barking Platforms 7/8 and West Ham. In real life, would trains normally be diverted via Woodgrange Park, Maryland, Stratford and Bow Junction to Gas Factory Junction, or would they be reversed at Barking?

Thanks all,

Gwasanaethau (Mark)

I think nowadays you'd be reversing everything. The Shenfield all-stations run at a 10 minute headway on the Electric lines, with Southends threaded betweeen them, so no capacity on the GE. Even less in the peak, of course. And in the privatised world there's a matter of just who pays what to whom and for what; by the time m'learned friends have sorted that one out, the TCF will have been rectified a month.

Back in the old days, I'd have said it would be unlikely simply because of line capacity. Certainly wouldn't happen in the peak when the GE was close to saturation. Off-peak it would probably depend on who was on duty in Liverpool St Control. Some would get as many as could be fitted through come what may (but some trains would definitely have to be reversed at Barking), while others would sit on their hands & say reverse everything. (At least you have the UndergrounD at Barking to put pax on to, so it's not like turning everything at Laindon or somewhere.)

I imagine there'd be a split - reverse some in platform 7/8 at Barking, while others would divert via Ockenden where capacity permits

Thanks for the insights. I had completely forgotten about the underground running alongside, so reversing everything doesn’t sound quite as bad as I had originally thought!

As I work in one of the relevant controls both eventualities do still occur both peak and off peak.

We actually had i diversion via Stratford in the evening peak last week due yo an incident at Wrst Ham
