I have just used the search function to find a post that I rememebered from a couple of years back, but due to the sheer volume of information now on the forum, it was quite difficult to find what I was looking for. One of the main reaosns for this is that there is no way of identiying from the seacrh results when a post or article was added meaning I had to open each in turn, only to find that most were very old and not really related to what I was looking for. The search results seemed to list the posts in date order, with the oldest being listed first. As a suggestion, can I suggets that some form of sort function is added to the search facility, and also (if possible) add a way of sorting them into date order with the most recent at the top. It would certainly help when searching for more recent information if you didn't have to trawl through a load of old historical stuff first. Thanks. Log in to reply |

Another related thing I'm missing is the ability to search by username – somebody I might remember who might have said something interesting, but can't find it again. (Or alternatively I might know that I myself might have written something in particular at some point, but there's no practical way of finding it again currently.)

Probably what's happening is that a lot of results get the same score and the ordering for equal results is likely in date order just from the order it was in the database. Adding more words to the search would probably get a better score variation. I'll see if I can add a second sort order to it. Mantis 41737. I did consider a username search but had a reservation against doing so, however I don't recall what that was as I type this. SimSig Boss Log in to reply |
