At Ely the exit from the Down Freight Siding is a shunt signal (CA765) reading up to the signal at the end of the platform (CA281). There's also a black override button (or, at least, there was when it was a real panel) which the signaller has to pull to allow a train out of the siding into an occupied platform (it's not used if the platform is clear). I know why it's there: it's to ensure the signaller thinks things through before sending a possibly long train into an occupied platform. I'm fine with that. But what's the exact order of actions on the part of the signaller? Is it: (1) Press CA785, press CA281, route sets up, CA785 then clears when tracks TLP and TLR are both clear or when the override button is pulled; or (2) Press CA785, possibly pull the override button, press CA281, and which set of controls for the signal apply depends on whether the button was pulled or not, rather like a via button. Does anyone know what happens here or, failing that, what's the most common arrangement for other places that use these override buttons? Log in to reply |

I can’t speak specifically for Cambridge Panel, but other similar overrides that I am familiar with are all: Entrance - Exit - Override
