Hi! I love SimSig but I'm not a biggest fan of setting my windows how I like them every time. I started writing this little application to make my life a bit easier. It's far from being finished, very much in it's infancy, but maybe you will also find it useful. I will be grateful for any feedback and ideas. [Get positions] - reads positions of SimSig windows [Set positions] - sets positions of windows as specified in the edit fields [Save settings] - saves settings as default values Basic workflow: First use: - Set SimSig windows as you like them - Click [Get positions] - Click [Save settings] Next time: - Start SimSig - Open windows that are not visible by default (like Train List or Timetable) - Click [Set positions] to restore your saved layout Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Last edited: 10/02/2020 at 21:53 by JaBaRu Reason: None given Log in to reply The following users said thank you: 9pN1SEAp, JamesN |

Maybe SimSig could have a remember window positions option for a future release? Raised a feature request in the bug tracker, #29284.

Indeed, that would be great. This is a "workaround" tool until it makes it's way into SimSig itself. Log in to reply |

It would be great if the tool could remember different settings collections for different sims, as I lay each one out differently. Thanks Jamie Jamie S (JAMS) Log in to reply The following user said thank you: Richard42 |

Something that bugs me a little bit is having to click the Sticky Note 'OK' button after inputting text. It would be much better if you could just hit the 'Enter' key on your keyboard. Would it be possible to implement this? Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate. Log in to reply The following users said thank you: Richard42, njimiller |

In the Simsig windows, any button (or tab) that has a letter underlined, if you press Alt and the underlined letter, it will execute that action or open that tab. Saving multiple configurations is already on my To-Do list :) I will also check what I can do about Sticky Notes. I should have some time on Friday to play around with it. Last edited: 11/02/2020 at 19:15 by JaBaRu Reason: None given Log in to reply |

The sticky notes box, on the other hand, is multiline; if Enter committed the dialog, there would be no keystroke left to add a newline! Log in to reply |

Several applications I use in my "day-job" have ALT-Enter to solve this problem. It's rather more instinctive than ALT-O. Perhaps SimSig could allow both in a future incarnation?

As others have said, using Enter alone can't be used, otherwise you would struggle to use multi-line notes. SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

To toss further confusion into the mix, I know of some applications that use Enter to submit and Shift+Enter to insert a newline.

In the absence of a formal equivalent, can the unofficial tool add support for the Simplifier (F8) and Multiplayer Messages (F10) windows?

I use three screens, the laptop and two monitors, one either side of the laptop. Once a simulation has loaded and I have altered the depth of the layout, I stretch the layout across all three screens. I then open and position six windows (usually put in the same place), with two on each of the three screens above the layout. I sometimes open even more depending on the sim. I assume that this little application, or something similar, is one that I and others would be able to use, as it is a bit tiresome having to arrange the windows every time? Also, if people's windows differ from those shown in the example, could modifications be made to suit an individual's layout? I think the idea is that you set the numbers yourself and it remembers them. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |
