Me again,

Sorry to be a pain but I've noticed that if I lock a license to my machine then check the "only show installed and owned/free" box, the locked licenses don't appear (on the machine they're locked to). Is this intentional?

Thanks.

We're continuing to investigate issues with users locking licenses to there local machine, until that's sorted out it's hard to say.

For the vast majority of people (I don't know if that's the case with you) there is no need to lock licenses to a machine, and you can just use them dynamically.

Many thanks, I only locked them in an attempt to stop the sims ending themselves if my laptop goes to sleep whilst I'm timetabling (because I'm a pillock and sometimes forget to save before going to eat/the shop/take over the world).

I have a custom scaling factor set to 125% setting it back to 100% let me see the button and upgrade , but really I shouldn't have to, I need that scaling factor to cope with an eyesight issue

Thanks for the assist.

I'll get something logged for the scaling, admittedly when I saw it the other day that particular user had 1000% (One thousand) scaling, and I put the issue down to that.

Thanks for identifying the issue.

EDIT

Mantis 30907 raised.

followup : SimSig sim itself is now hideously overscaled - hitherto it was perfect with 125% scaling

I run 125% to for all of Windows 10 as per norm not just Simsig and this is the first time the windows have rescaled ; dammit - this may make Simsig unplayable . somethings been changed in the code for some reason

I'll investigate locally, but before I do, have you reopened SimSig after a complete reboot after fiddling with the scaling options?

We used to have some EPOS software in a previous job that didn't like Window scaling being changed without a reboot.

I use 200% scaling (4k monitor, and I have bad eyesight - a bit of a pointless setup admittedly but you live and learn). Scaling is not an issue for me. You could try right clicking on the exe file, selecting Properties, then go to the Compatibility tab and fiddle with the settings there. Unfortunately Windows is terrible at scaling and even though I don't have anything non-standard in my settings, for somebody else they might need to. Certainly there's nothing in SimSig to override the scaling - all that is done by Windows, not SimSig.

A full reboot cured this. Good spot ; still, far more trouble than I'd looked for in what I though was just a particular new sim release and not a major version upgrade

FWIW for those of us who were absolutely happy with it as was and dont frequent the forums, not a great experience or choice to upgrade (when for years all the upgrade button has done is mostly update a sim or two) . I've chucked a fair bit of cash into this for something thats provided me hours of entertainment so I am letting people know how I feel thus far.

Still, good support on the forum for what that's worth, too.

If I may make a positive suggestion, how easy would it be to make the 'Simplifier' and 'Train List' buttons in the Loader window user configurable?

I say this as someone who uses the function buttons to access both the Simplifier, Train list (and Timetable Editor) so view these buttons as duplicating work flow.

It would be great for me if there was a shortcut for 'Listing Permissions Given' to keep track of which shunters have accepted which train or 'Lever Frames' for those sims with a few (looking at you Western Region...) and maybe a shortcut for 'Stacked Routes' for our friends from Down Under?

This should also avoid the need to go via Burger King...

Had no issues upgrading to Loader v5 btw. Nice to see the following bug has been fixed:
0014866: [Runtime] Defensive driving rules vs. differential speed limits

TIA

In Zone 6, no one can hear you scream...

Just a quick note but I'm now using my licences dynamically eg one simulation at a time yet while playing Tyneside on my desktop PC and it was the only one open, I managed to connect to the Tyneside-Yorks session yet a few minutes later, it said my time has timed out and it exited the simulation.

I have updated both machines that I use and both are using Loader 5 and I've unlocked all my licences as I'm using them dynamically so why did the loader think I was using a trial version of Tyneside?

I've got a bit lost here. You're saying that changing the scaling settings and then rebooting cured your problem, yet you still seem to think it's a SimSig issue? I did state that Windows scaling is terrible. Even Microsoft's own software doesn't scale properly: Windows Media Player being a classic for a long time before it was fixed.

I have just tried to upgrade and also have repeatedly received update failed 2, failed to communicate with the server. When I tried to open the forum to ask I also got the Server Certificate has expired within the last 24hrs notice (not safe to proceed) from both Firefox and Opera.
Is this why I cannot finish the update or have I missed something, logging into the licence manager perhaps? The Simsig opening screen shows V5.2, it just has not completed the update process and has the cannot communicate with server message in red.

Apologies if this is in the wrong place it's such a long time since I have needed to post anything, usually looks after itself.

Thanks

The SSL issue will have previously prevented access to server - it should be all good now though?

Geoff,
Generally, I'm finding things work, to the limited extent that I've tried them. No gripes with font size or typeface.
However, the clock needs some work, which may be in hand. The passing of the seconds is a minor "flashing " irritant, which I expect I will get used to. The wholesale flashing of the whole clock screen on an intermittent basis is a different matter. If I were epileptic, I would be afraid it would have the same effect as a strobe light.
I'll keep you posted, but generally well done!
I am going to pick up on what John has said here... The clock ticking along is not an issue but I too have noticed this intermittent flickering at random seconds. I do suffer from photosensitive epilepsy and have done for 30 years, (fortunately well controlled by medication so rarely discuss it) but I have noticed this weekend while playing that I am having to take very regular breaks from the game. Is this something that is a fault or could be fixed in some way?

Thanks
Brian

Yes, we certainly don't want to be triggering seizures. I have an idea actually, I just need to try it.

You can open a lever frame directly by right-clicking the 'N' label associated with the Frame (this has been a feature for a while)

Well now, I wasn't aware of this little trick. How long ago was it introduced? Was it announced on the forum?

Just to be precise, you have to right-click on the roundel. I spent hours clicking on the letter N to no avail! Only joking of course

This may already have been asked, but in the timetable window that pops up when clicking on a train's headcode, would it be possible to show the calling points in bold, so they're easier to pick out from the location list?

Further information which may or may not assist in diagnosis of issue regarding access to sims locked to machine not working with no internet connection. I have just purchased Chester and Cheshire Lines sims and these exhibit the same problem, so it is not just sims transferred from old system to new system.

Yesterday I installed the new loader on a Windows-10 machine and it is working ok.
Today I have installed it on a Windows-7 machine and there is a strange issue!

It installs as VER 5 instead of VER-5.2 and also refuses to update itself. It also fails to communicate with the Simsig server(screenshot attached). I am unable to login. I checked the settings in Windows firewall and the loader is allowed to access the internet. The internet connection is working fine. I also downloaded the system files again just to be sure but it still installs as VER-5 and refuses to update itself.

When I press the "Check for Updates" button, it says Simsig is upto date.

However, for some reason, I found that many of the sims were already installed and appeared in the new game window despite the installation window not having run visibly. Also, the sims themselves seem to be working ok.
For the limited sessions I have played, both on Win 7 and 10 OS, I have found that the clock letters flicker every few seconds which is a little distracting.

Sorry if this has been mentioned earlier.

Khalid.
