Hey all, so been messing about with some SimSig in MS Paint, so decided to see what some (eventual) future sims might look like!

Sleaford was done all off Box diagrams off various sites with all TC's & signal placements as they are in real life, plus all AHB & MCB crossings

the 2nd is Stourbridge which I think would make a good little sim tbh, with a few MCBs plenty of B'ham Moor St/Snow Hill passenger workings plus the freight from round oak and loops a plenty en-route would be an easy 1 player sim, with a fun link in MP with it completing the b'ham area! (i also spent 2.99 getting a book purley to see where the SJ TC's were haha)

and I'm working on Worcester atm, I'll post it here when I finish it!

These are just mockups and not the real thing, just a bit of personal fun for me, so they do not mean they are in development as it takes a lot more than ctrl C & Ctrl V to make a functioning SimSig :)

Nice to see the Stourbridge corridor on there. Good work.

I'd always envisaged that it would reflect the layout from the NX panel.

https://photos.signalling.org/picture?/6153/category/499-2012

As you'll see from the photo on that website, there were no berths on the panel. The signaller relied on a small separate VDU situated off to the left of the panel.

Kidderminster needs to be flipped on your diagram. There is a change of line direction at Stourbridge North Junction, with the Up being towards Droitwich and Worcester.

There was a GPL (HY3) on the Up Main to allow reversals back from Hartlebury to Kidderminster.

Yeah, I was debating making it as the panel is, though for simplicity made it scrolly!

and yeah, the berths I had to include as I feel SimSig doesn't suit well to the lack of berths.

and yep added HY3 & flipped kidderminster Junc

give it a day or so- and I'll post Worcester, which admittedly is rather a fun sim with weird TC's (and the lack of them) plus plenty of semaphores, and slotting between boxes

You can also create layouts (but not simulations) using a simple text editor (even as simple as Notepad) and the SimSig font. There is more in this topic and then this topic.

The app created by Roadrunner which used the font to create layouts rather more easily than using a text editor has long since disappeared.

oh cool, might take a look!

I've also just finished a Worcester sim, which proved very challenging indeed, with acceptance levers, AB, TCB, B-di working, Semaphores galore
, Tokenless block crossings and plenty of non-track circuited sections (it also certainly retains a BR "Rationatlisation" feel to it)

This was such fun to make, and admittedly has a lot of potential too!

Good work on the Worcester mock up.

Had you considered adding the Kingswinsford Junction signals on the Stourbridge line. I would imagine it would suit that sim, depending on whether it would work as an extension to the Walsall sim, as an older date with Wednesbury.

Either way, with the current infrastructure I think it would work better with Stourbridge.

Thanks! it's a complex sim, with a lot of quirks!

and yeah, I have the diagrams for it, so might add them in, would certainly add some fun to the sim

I'd suggest that more likely than seeing the line past Hartlebury on a Worcester sim would be the inclusion of Evesham and line towards Oxford.

Yes, I was debating adding in Evesham, Moreton-In-marsh, and Ascott-Under-Wywood so might work on that.
Didn't want to add too many panels but I'll go on the hunt for those diagrams see what I can find!

It is just a mockup, but if I were writing a Worcester sim I would lay it out like thus:-

aaaaand, done A complete mock-up of a Worcester sim (Post 2011 but pre-2016)
(2011 was the re-doubling of the oxford-Norton junc section, as well as Evesham & Ascott having panels replacing their frames)
(2016 was the addition of a Track circuited turnback siding at Henwick, plus a new semaphore there. Also a re-model of Malvern wells moving the X-over and abolishing the sidings there. Plus numerous Semephores replaced with Colour Lights.)

Boxes Included,
Droitwich Spa (DS)
Worcester Tunnel Junc (TJ)
Worcester Shrub Hill (SH)
Norton Junc (NJ)
Henwick (HK)
Newland East (NE)
Malvern Wells (MV)
Ledbury (LY)
Evesham (Panel) (E)
Moreton-In-Marsh (MM)
Ascott-Under-Wychwood (AW)

it'll fringe with Hereford, Gloucester (2) and Oxford PSB

You've just reminded me of this, which I sketched up about 5 years ago. The Wherry lines, pre-resignalling. The signals should all be accurate, but there's a bit of guesswork around the swing bridge interfaces. I couldn't be bothered drawing out the rest of the Trowse Swing Bridge area to Sherringham.

That looks ace! love the custom semaphores at Yarmouth!
The Bridges are an oddity, though I think keadby canal SwBr on the Sth Humberside sim is an example of one in SimSig.

I do believe, in using semaphores in these areas in SimSig, as they are hotspots of it!

Yeah, I find doing the Mechanical box lines are weirdly easy as a good/decent shot of the diagram and you've got all the Tcs & signal placement all there, though PSBs & IECC's are a lot harder!
And certain boxes have eluded the camera, one of those being Evesham on my Worcester mockup, whose diagram/Panel is not seen anywhere! took a while to scan lo rez images, and watch cab rides to get X-ings and signal placement!

Those swing bridges are intriguing - is it feasible to have ships in the (railway) timetable, as phantom trains on invisible tracks between start and entry points, affecting the interlocking and triggering phone calls etc?
(named for the one in Tasmania, not in Russia)

I suppose, in theory, it could be simulated that way. However, given the random nature of river traffic (I think it's all leisure craft on the broads these days), it's basically the same as a user-worked level crossing. Keadby on South Humberside was simulated that way (with a nice little animation showing the bridge deck sliding out of the way)

TBH a 'Bridge blocked by wayward hire motor cruiser' message is probably nearer the mark these days, especially on an ebb tide at Reedham as vessels try to moor at the staithe.

The days of commercial vessels trading up to Norwich are long gone. An irony being the original wherries would have just dropped their masts and 'shot' the bridges if what cargo they were carrying was not stacked above their hatches.

The duties of the Swing Bridge signaller may also include the raising/lowering of flags and displaying of boards to indicate to river users if and when the bridge will next open. Back in the day they also included the collection of a toll from vessels requiring an open bridge by means of a long butterfly net....

The boards have now been replaced by an LED display (at least at Reedham).
I have seen:
'Too hot to open bridge'
A big red 'X' and 'bridge closed' ( = train due)
'Bridge will open' ( = train not due)

Official, but my mistake, it was a lifting road bridge (now replaced) at Haddiscoe New Cut that had the toll to help pay for the maintenance of the New Cut itself.

And here is the S&C with all crossings, tunnels, and TC's as per Real Life.

The IBS's seem very lopsided and awkward but think I've made it work, I was debating adding in Horrocksford junction & Daisyfield?
