Loader V5 Released! 03/07/2020 at 17:29 #128895

Hi there!
I'm just a bit confused as to whether I have installed version 5 of SimSig correctly or not?
The reason why I say this, is because that when I click onto the loader, I now get the page that says at the end, says: Press next to start the upgrade?
There is no 'next' or start icon on that page to click onto?
So, if I press the'X' icon, it says abort the upgrade?
If I press no, it returns back to the page again; if I press yes, I then get the loader, with the SimSig options, and the updated version 5 in the far bottom right hand corner.
I have clicked onto this, then all the time table amendments and simulations have appeared scrolling right down to all the listed simulations.
Another thing I am not sure about, is that when I look at my licenses, it now says that I have 'none' even though I have quite a number of SimSig simulations already installed!
If I press the allocate icon, I have noticed that all the green lights for my simulations on the loader, goes to yellow and then says that I dont have any licenses for them?
I had requested an "unlock" which took just a short space of time to get them back, so the yellow lights, have now gone back to green lights again!
So it does seem that my simulations have been restored, but I'm still not sure if I have missed something out?
My simulations are still working ok as it happens, but whenever I click onto the loader, I get the same page again to inform me that I have to press the upgrade icon again?
I do have the new formatted version on my simulations, the Piccadilly simulation as one example that now has the new branch line to Victoria from Water Street Junction, which wasn't there on the previous Piccadilly simulation; so with that, have I correctly installed version 5, or am I still missing something here?
Look forward to any advice or suggestions that you can offer me!
Kind regards to all!
Keith Palmer.

When you run the updater, ensure you click 'Delete obsolete files' in the bottom left corner of the updater window if it's offered.

I think that should clear everything up (you may need a couple more runs through the updater to get everything sorted), if not let us know.

You may need to adjust you scaling back to 100%, then restart the loader you should then be offered the update again and able to see the next button.

To be honest, there is so much that is factually incorrect here that I wonder whether you have actually fact checked your own comments. And that's not even counting the non-factual, ie subjective, things. Suffice to say I do not believe it's worth my time addressing all the incorrect points in here.
Well in that case since you can't be arsed to even address my comments I'm not sure how much of my money SimSig should be worth in future. Perhaps Chester/Cheshire Lines will be the last sims I buy. You asked for some constructive criticism that would improve the experience while keeping your hamburger menu which you're so attached to. I gave you some. You decided my suggestions on how to improve things were "factually incorrect" (???). And if you look at my purchase history you'll see that I own every sim; I've easily spent several hundred on SimSig sims, and have donated more than once for Donationware sims as well. If this were still a free product I would certainly not be this angry but frankly with the amount I've paid I do have the right to at least voice my complaints that you've made a change that makes my user experience substantially worse, and are treating me like crap for telling you that.

I know you've worked hard on loader version 5 and as I've repeatedly said I think the majority of changes in it are for the better, and overall it's a good improvement. My only complaint is on this point, and for me it's a substantial usability downgrade as I use the menus quite a lot and it's turned from a very smooth mouse movement to a very awkward one. My feedback was always intended as constructive; if you'll notice, besides this I've only reported outright bugs, and have in fact defended the v5 loader a few times. So I don't know why you're acting so rudely when a number of us have simply told you that we don't like this one particular change.

Incidentally, thanks for incorporating my suggestion to allow the CSS to be changed without it being replaced in updates — that really helps for the timetable screen, I now have it configured how I like it

I cannot remember the last time I needed to use the menus for anything during actual gameplay, only to set up network connections or run timetable imports beforehand.

Aren’t the single button shortcuts that almost all of the functions are accessible by any good?

Opening the overview? Opening some ground frames? (Some are openable via right clicking the right spot on the panel, but not all)

I must confess to never using the overview.

Which ground frames cannot be opened by right click on the "N"?

If you're the host in an online game you don't always want to scroll to where the ground frame is to operate it for a client, especially if it's a two-player game where you also have your own panel to operate.

(I don't recall one that doesn't work when you right-click the "N", I must admit).

Ultimately while I primarily use the hotkeys I don't always remember the hotkeys. I quite often open the options menu to adjust the speed at early hours in the morning, in extreme cases I might do this every few minutes if I set the speed back to normal to do some complex routeing of one train and then put it back high to wait for another train to appear. Similarly I quite often open the full timetable, especially when interspersing playing with TT development, and don't always remember the hotkey for that.

Also when editing timetables I use the import/export features a lot, usually to search for an error I spotted in my timetable that I want to make sure I've fixed everywhere.

If the frame exists at all then the way the core code works I can't see how the right click wouldn't be functional.

Even with the old menus it will still have been easier to press F3 for the options, F4 for the timetable etc.

Press 'N'.

Re ground frames, it might be an exception, but the handsignals "frame" in Moss Vale only has a single release button as opposed to the regular N/F controls and as such can only be opened via the menu I think?

I know about N, it's setting it back to whatever fast speed I'm otherwise playing at that is harder

Press 'F' to accelerate to maximum speed; you can revert to your standard speed at any time by pausing and unpausing, and it will drop back automatically after 5 simulation minutes.

I know, I meant when I'm setting the speed to something like 3 or 4 times, if there are a few trains but not many.

Use of the F3 key to open the 'Options' menu hasn't changed from the previous loader version. One press of 'F3' and the speed slider is the first thing that opens in 'Options'. I use it frequently, along with 'F' for a brief fast spurt and 'N' to return to 1:1 speed at any time. What could be simpler than one press of one key?

There is a proposal on Mantis that the F key should be a toggle. Press and you go to full speed until you press F again which reverts to the previous speed setting. If the idea is deemed worthy of development and can be achieved without major surgery it will be taken forward.

And you have the +/- keys. Three or four presses ( or whatever) of + key should get you where you need to be, possibly quicker than opening a menu however that's effected.

May I suggest a quick visit to the Shortcut Keys Page of the wiki is in order then? You may find other shortcut keys that you were not previously aware of.
For information, this is found in the wiki under the General Information section, under the Simulation Operation section

Apologies if this is already inside this thread, but is there a way of amending the way that the timetable pop up appears when a train description is clicked while running a SIM on the new loader....?

On the previous loader, if a timetable was open, clicking a different train would close the old timetable and open the new one in the same place. The new loader does not do that, and instead opens another (very large) new timetable in the middle of the screen instead, while at the same time keeping the previous timetable open. Not sure what other people think, but I am used to positioning the timetable window adjacent to the main view, so it is easy to follow the route that needs to be taken, which is useful if you are not familiar with the layout. Instead, I am now finding that I need to close the old timetable, and continually move the new one out of the way so I can see the track layout to understand what route I need to set.

Is there a simple way to set it back to the old way of viewing this, or is this something I am going to have to learn to live with.....? I've checked through the F3 options, but can't seem to fix it.

Thanks.

Just for the record I am currently moving over to a new laptop. Downloaded the system files to the bespoke location I am continuing to use on the new machine, carried everything else over from the old machine and once I remembered my password everything validated straight away.

The whole process was completely painless. I wish Microsoft and Mozilla made it so easy!

I literally only realised that there was an updated version of the loader yesterday - think I was actually 2 updates behind (oops!). Having got it running with ease, I got a save on Exeter (saved on previous loader) up and running no problem and I have to say that having played for a few hours last night, the changes are fantastic.

Massive credit to everyone involved in continually evolving this fantastic application
