Advance warning that I have been and paid the £20 room deposit. The meet will take place on Saturday 14th. July 2012; the venue will be the Bridge Hotel, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Usual deal, a function room for us to use with a limited bar, a main bar with about 8 proper beers plus the usual smooths and fizzies downstairs and a buffet to be provided. There is also a beer garden/terrace looking out over the river for those who want a breath of fresh air while they are drinking. Entry fee to be decided once we get a bit nearer to the time. Details of the venue are on-line here. It is located about 300 yards from the main entrance to Newcastle Central station, directly opposite the Castle Keep at the northern end of the High Level Bridge. Once we get the London meet in March out of the way, I will put information on the Wiki (and will also be investigating what deals are possible at city centre hotels in Newcastle). There is a Holiday Inn Express, a Travelodge and a couple of Premier Inns all within walking distance if all else fails. For those who don't want to overnight, it is easily possible to day trip it from London (08:00 or 08:30 ex KGX and the last train back is 19:03, arriving 22:24 in the TT to May) and you can also day-trip from a lot of the Cross-Country network. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply The following users said thank you: UKTrainMan, officer dibble, birchy74 |

I can thoroughly recommend the Premier Inn Newcastle Central. Very nice and comfortable. It's well placed for late night walks round Eldon Square and the university as well!

Appreciate the very advance notice, should give everyone a chance to get the very best of advance fares. Also must express my thanks for including the advice to those of us coming from London who may want to day trip it. Have just had a look at their private function buffet menu out of interest (see link on this page) and the Finger & Fork Buffet looks good . Since there seems to me to be a new thing on the forum of coming along  and criticising spelling  , if we did end up going for the Hot Buffet then I'm not sure about the "Chicken Tikka Masalla". Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for. Postal, Thanks for the heads up (with plenty of warning), enables me to escape from the clutches of FGW for a weekend :cheer:

I won't be at March either but we are thinking of making this a family trip, I'm sure my wife and son can find something to do on Saturday and maybe Beamish Museum on Sunday. Trouble is most of the ideas I've thought of I'd quite like to do too! Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

The advanced notice on this one is much appreciated, I shouldn't have much trouble getting the weekend off of work.

I'm also following an idea up for a Sunday morning visit but probably won't have an answer until Easter(ish). If all else fails, there's always a trip down to Sunderland on the Metro to see how light transit is overlaid onto the existing heavy railway.

Just to advise everyone, the advance fares for the meet date will start to come available on the 19th of April 2012. That's approximately three weeks away.

My hotel and everything is booked for this one, I just need to sign up and pay whenever thats available. Fingers crossed we wont be playing only existing released sims again. Blessed are the true believers, for only they shall walk the Path, and they shall be welcomed unto the realm of the Ori and made as one with Them. That's approximately three weeks away.East Coast ticket allocations for that weekend were released on Thursday, and I've just booked my tickets. Note for anyone booking on the 1903 heading south, the cheap tickets are limited in availability (lower half of single figures). So, I shall be there, although unfortunately the date clashes with our Model Railway club exhibition the following day, so I will NOT be able to bring as many extension leads etc as I did to London, so if anyone has any decent length power cabling, please bring them (I supplied 5 long leads in London, without which there wouldn't have been much Simsig going on). See you all in a few weeks (months) time. God bless, Daniel Wilson Log in to reply The following user said thank you: UKTrainMan |

EDIT: turns out that 'your reservation is guaranteed if you pay within two hours' means 'unless your session times out'. Bah. Came back an hour later to pay and someone's nabbed the last one. Looks like I'm leaving slightly earlier. Last edited: 29/04/2012 at 09:47 by Josie Log in to reply |

For me its bristol to newcastle, although i have work at 0630 sunday morning too. Have just looked at national rail and for me to get back for sunday (requiring me to leave the meet slightly early to get a train at just before 6) would be £73.30 (may of looked at tickets without my railcard before) if someone can find something cheaper than that, i would appreciate it. i would prefer traveling up on the saturday, and have to be at work on sunday morning but don't mind apart from those when i travel. Change to my last post, my holiday pay came through from work which was more than i was expecting so am now able to come. And also after quite a large amound of searching and journey splitting, i also found tickets costing me £53.30 which is £20 . Will be my second meet but looking forward to it. Will sign up now too. Nathan Addition I've put down that i can bring some power strips with me, normal 4 ways, or 2 ways with long cables. If you let me know what you need me to bring, i'll pack them. " said:Can I join the meet, remotely? :unsure:The reason is lack of an internet connection in most venues we use. Even if there is an internet (eg WiFi) connection, we don't have access to the router to configure it for inbound access. Some people have dongles on their laptops to get internet access but they aren't really suitable or fast enough for inbound connections. Give it a few years.... SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

I have never been successful in any attempt to even configure a dongle for multiplayer hosting, and have tried several times with several dongles. It is possible, and indeed easy, to play multiplayer as a client on one, but if the mobile phone signal in the area were to be poor, which in my experience is far more often than the phone providers say, then there would probably be difficulty in hosting via a dongle anyway.
